Do You Need to Give a Religious Best Man Speech ?
Not long ago I posted a short article on Christian Best Man Speech. In fact it was the last article posted here in this blog. Now we have a similar topic this time – Religious Best Man Speech. I am not sure what they actually mean when they are talking about religious best man speeches. I think it’s a traditional best man speech which has lots of quotes from religious books and other resources. In general, best man speeches are mostly light-hearted. Actually a best man speech sounds best when it is humorous. Almost every best man wants his best man speech to be funny. But there are times where funny wedding speeches don’t seem to fit the occasion and the best man has to settle for a solemn best man speech.
I wonder if the other religions have best man speeches or any other wedding speech delivered at their weddings. Probably not if we are strictly talking in terms of religion, but, as I said in my last blog post, a few do include wedding speeches in their wedding ceremonies or receptions just to match the local culture and tradition that they have somewhat adapted.
A religious best man speech may also depend on the best man. If the best man is a religious person his best man speech could drift away from a normal best man speech and would become a religious best man speech. And it could also depend on whether the grooms and brides family is religious by tradition – in that case also the best man would also want to give a religious best man speech.
Did You Say Religious Best Man Speech ?
Did you ever hear a best man speech at a non-Christian wedding ceremony? I did.
During the summer last year I was in the UK. I was there for some business but had the opportunity to attend a non-Christian wedding ceremony. The groom is one of my business associates in the UK and he is from India. His grandfather moved to the UK decades ago and he lived all his life in the UK. That’s why it was kind of a cross border wedding. I knew that best man speech is unique to Christian weddings and that too probably in the west. But I was quite amazed to see that this wedding I attended had all the wedding speeches that you typically experience at a Christian wedding. So, even people from other religions are also considering wedding speeches like best man speeches and father of the wedding speeches as part of their wedding ceremony.
We have recently published a new article on religious best man speech which somewhat discusses how you should prepare for a best man speech if you intend to give it at a non-Christian wedding.
By the way, I sometimes get mail where people request for information on religious best man speeches. I am not sure what they actually mean by religious best man speech since all best man speeches are religious at the core since it is a part of the religious ceremony like wedding. I asked quite a few of them and most of them replied that what they want is a best man speech that is not out and out funny like everybody expects it to be and has quotations and one-liners from religious resources ( Bible, for example) and also ends with a wedding toast which has to be religious too.
But I can guarantee you that irrespective of the type of best man speeches a guy intends to give, the fundamentals don’t change and you have to prepare hard for your best man speeches.
More Discussion on Christian Best Man Speech
Wedding speeches are typically related to Christian weddings. So, when somebody talks about Christian best man speech, he or she is actually referring to best man speeches that we come across at almost all weddings we attend … okay, maybe I should say, almost all Christian weddings we attend. A Christian best man speech is in fact not very different from a typical best man speech. But since people often talk about Christian Best Man Speech I wonder if there is anything else attached to it other than it is given by a guy who is generally a Christian by religion during a Christian wedding.
Sometimes when somebody is referring to Christian best man speeches it is very much possible that the person actually means a traditional best man speech by saying so. In that case, a good traditional speech is not very difficult to come up with. Again let me say that there’s hardly any difference between best man speeches especially at the core. A Christian best man speech or a traditional best man speech would be more serious in nature with quotations from the Bible and end with a best man toast which is more religious than anything else. Needless to say that there might not be any hilarious jokes that are almost synonymous with best man speeches.
Let’s make it simple – if you are a Christian delivering a wedding speech at a Christian wedding then it’s a Christian best man speech you are giving.
