Speaking from the heart is excellent advice, not only for the Best Man, but for anyone making a wedding speech or toast.

Also, I whole-heartedly agree with you that inappropriate jokes have no business in a wedding speech. Tasteless jokes and suggestive material can ruin a wedding; the speech and the ill-advised speaker will be remembered for this, and not in a good way. Perhaps the off-color humor would be better restricted to the bachelor party.
