Did You Say Religious Best Man Speech ?

Did you ever hear a best man speech at a non-Christian wedding ceremony? I did.

During the summer last year I was in the UK. I was there for some business but had the opportunity to attend a non-Christian wedding ceremony. The groom is one of my business associates in the UK and he is from India. His grandfather moved to the UK decades ago and he lived all his life in the UK. That’s why it was kind of a cross border wedding. I knew that best man speech is unique to Christian weddings and that too probably in the west. But I was quite amazed to see that this wedding I attended had all the wedding speeches that you typically experience at a Christian wedding. So, even people from other religions are also considering wedding speeches like best man speeches and father of the wedding speeches as part of their wedding ceremony.

We have recently published a new article on religious best man speech which somewhat discusses how you should prepare for a best man speech if you intend to give it at a non-Christian wedding.

By the way, I sometimes get mail where people request for information on religious best man speeches. I am not sure what they actually mean by religious best man speech since all best man speeches are religious at the core since it is a part of the religious ceremony like wedding. I asked quite a few of them and most of them replied that what they want is a best man speech that is not out and out funny like everybody expects it to be and has quotations and one-liners from religious resources ( Bible, for example) and also ends with a wedding toast which has to be religious too.

But I can guarantee you that irrespective of the type of best man speeches a guy intends to give, the fundamentals don’t change and you have to prepare hard for your best man speeches.

Interesting post, thanks for posting this! I honestly haven’t given a lot of thought to best man speeches vs. religious best man speeches, but agree that there could be a vast difference in the two, depending on the best man and his approach. I actually think a combination of the two approaches for best man speeches could be the best route, sharing memories from childhood and/or the time spent with the groom (without saying anything crude or inappropriate), and incorporating in some Bible verses or other related religious quotes. Thanks again for the article!
