While delivering a best man’s speech it’s easy for any best man to commit several mistakes unless he is well aware of the mistakes and is prepared to avoid them as much as he could. “Hi, I’m Jeff. Michael’s younger brother and the best man. Well, this is my first best man speech. I haven’t been a best man before and don’t actually now what to say . . . . I mean, in fact,  this is the first time I am speaking to so many people. A little nervous . . . .er, so, I welcome you to Mike’s wedding reception . . . .”

Well, it sounds better when you read this but when you actually hear his from a nervous best man with a choked voice . . . . it can’t get worse than that. The audience will immediate know that it’s better not to expect anything interesting fro this best man. The best man speech dies then and there. You may be nervous, but do you really show the audience that you are. Is that going to make your speech any better? Procrastinate: Why hurry? You have enough time to prepare for your speech. In fact, the best time to get started is the night before the wedding day.

Do not do the research. Why should you? There are loads of ready speeches that are available online. Just pick anything that comes your way and go through it once or twice. Change the names, places and those stories and the speech is all yours.

There’s no need to write the best man speech. An impromptu speech is always a good idea. After all you have other stuffs to look after, don’t you? So, don’t bother to compose a speech. Just jot down a few points on a piece of paper and you will do fine.

Share funny and not so funny stories about the groom and his ex-girlfriends. This alone will liven up the reception instantly. So, don’t hesitate. By the way, if you know some secrets about the bride this is the time to reveal them.

It’s almost customary to drink a couple of bottles of wine as soon as the wedding reception begins. Don’t worry about your speech. Best man speeches only come after a couple of other wedding speeches. So, drink your ass out and have fun.

Let your best man speech be long. The longer the better. Just grab the microphone and speak your heart out. Just ignore if you see some of the guests leaving the reception area or begin speaking with others.

Finally, you are not required to rehearse or practice for your speech. As said earlier, simply memorize the speech and deliver it extempore. Come on, you can do it.
